British fugitive accused of sexually assaulting a minor arrested in Lanzarote
International cooperation leads to swift arrest and pending extradition

The investigation was triggered by information from the NCA's Joint International Crime Centre and Nottinghamshire Police. Acting on the European Arrest Warrant issued by British authorities, officers from the Judicial Police in Las Palmas tracked down and detained the fugitive before he could leave Spanish territory. The arrest was carried out with all legal guarantees and immediate judicial oversight, ensuring a smooth judicial process.
Following his arrest, the man was presented before the competent court in the province and remains in provisional prison while the extradition process to the United Kingdom is underway. The Spanish court is in constant contact with British authorities, who have formalised the extradition request related to the alleged sexual assault charges. The timeline for the extradition will depend on the legal documentation and reports submitted by the UK, adhering to established regulations.
This operation underscores the importance of international police cooperation in bringing offenders to justice and ensuring they cannot escape punishment by crossing borders. The Guardia Civil highlighted their firm commitment to fighting sexual violence and stressed that the arrest sends a clear message that hiding abroad will not allow perpetrators to evade justice.
