ARCHIVED - Teenage tourist might be paralysed after diving into shallow Spanish pool
The Norwegian holidaymaker was treated for a spinal injury and head wound after plunging into the Magaluf swimming pool

Yet another tragedy has struck the Spanish Island of Mallorca after a 19-year-old Norwegian tourist was seriously injured after diving into the shallow end of a resort pool just hours after arriving on holiday.
According to the Guardia Civil, the young man had been drinking with friends in the party hotspot of Magaluf when he dived into the swimming pool at the Oceans Beach Club resort at around 1.30am on Tuesday May 24.
Paramedics treated the tourist, from Norway, at the scene for a spinal injury and head wound before rushing him to hospital, and some locals have reported that he may have been paralysed in the accident.

Reports claim that the part of the pool he dived head-first into was only a foot and a half deep; he is being treated at the Son Espases Hospital in Palma where his condition has been described as “serious.”
This horrifying incident is just the latest in a series of tragic accidents in Spain as the Balearic Islands government desperately tries to reduce the number of alcohol-related mishaps by implementing all-inclusive drink limits and happy hour bans.
On May 12, a British holidaymaker plunged to his death from a seventh-floor balcony in a Magaluf hotel after climbing on the ledge, and later that same day, a former Dutch footballer died after miscalculating a cliff dive and smashing into the rocks below.
Earlier this month, a 50-year-old Irish tourist had to be treated for serious injuries in Santa Ponsa after falling two floors from his hotel balcony.
Correction: this article originally stated that the man was British. This has since been changed to reflect the fact that he is Norwegian.
