Calling all chocolate lovers to Pilar de la Horadada
The town is celebrating International Chocolate Day for a whole month, with special delicacies and free gifts
International Chocolate Day is celebrated around the world every September 13, but Pilar de la Horadada has decided not only to join in, but to celebrate for the entire month of September.
This simple food which delights our hearts and our palates is also part of Pilar’s gastronomic identity, so this is the perfect occasion to take a tour of the local bakeries, sweet shops, patisseries and restaurants to seek out these home made delights that turn cacao into magic.
You are invited to discover, through the creations of local artisans and chefs, how chocolate is full of history, anecdotes and recipes which tell about dedication and passion.
Chocolate is not just an ingredient, it is a tradition that accompanies us at the dining table, a gift to share and a taste that always makes us smile.
Moreover, throughout the month of September, for every one of the following chocolate concoctions that you buy from any of the participating businesses, you will receive a free gift of a magnet with the new logo of Pilar de la Horadada, so that you can take home a memento of this very special event.
So, if you are a visitor, this is a great opportunity to try the local food, support local residents and get a souvenir.
And even if you live in Pilar anyway, this is a delicious excuse to support local businesses, be a tourist in your home town and, of course, give yourself a treat!
The participating businesses are as follows:
Panadería Jose Antonio (C/ Mayor, 41, Tel: 649 56 35 27) was inspired by peppers, one of the characteristic products of local farms. They have created a yellow pepper made out of white chocolate, a red pepper of milk chocolate and a green pepper of 70% cocoa dark chocolate.
Restaurante Nostrissima (C/ Mayor, 60 Tel: 965 35 11 38. Open Wed-Sun 7pm-11.30pm and weekends 1pm-3.30pm as well) is celebrating with its famous Tarta de la Abuela (Grandma’s cake), a recipe perfected by its manager 30 years ago which has delighted generations of clients.
Pastelería Narciso (C/ La Isla. 50, Tel: 966 34 80 91. Closed Mondays and from September 1-15) is offering a cake with chocolate from Madagascar, which like all their creations is a perfect balance of soft, creamy, crunchy and airy.
And in Torre de la Horadada:
Heladería la Jijonenca (Plaza Mayor, Pueblo Latino, Tel: 965 35 11 05. Open: 15:00 a 00:00), an ice-cream parlour where their philosophy is “you can never have too much chocolate!”
Restaurante Plaza (Plaza Mayor de Pueblo Latino, 32.Tel: 966 76 93 61. Closed Thursdays) has their own special version of the traditional Tarta de la Abuela, made with biscuits and custard and chocolate in layers, which they recommend pairing with a glass of red wine.
