ARCHIVED - Calpe beaches receive 'good' rating from users
The Marina Alta municipality's Beach Management Committee has analysed the findings of Calpe's first user survey
Calpe carried out its first user survey of the town's beaches this year, with the coastline receiving an overall rating of 'good'.
The municipality's Beach Management Committee met this week to discuss the findings of the survey, completed by 467 people, which revealed that 42.6% of those who filled in the questionnaire enjoyed the Arenal-Bol beach and 41.9% the Fossa beach, followed by the Cantal Roig, Cala Calalaga, Cala Racó and Puerto Blanco.
The survey aims to collect complaints and suggestions relating to the management of the beaches, and throughout the bathing season, 45 complaints were made by beachgoers, the majority of which related to the "poor state of the footbaths" and "the excess of sunbeds and parasols".
Other complaints related to carelessly discarded cigarette butts, a lack of capacity control, nautical activities outside the buoyage zone and noise created by other beach users.
The beach survey was circulated at the start of the bathing season through posters with QR code at accesses to the beaches.
Overall, the town's beaches received a score of four (good), with a rating of one 'very bad' and five 'very good'. The services "most highly valued by users" were the assisted bathing, lifeguard service, nautical activities and the sun lounger and parasol rental service, which received a rating of five. The cleanliness of the beaches received a rating of four.
Although they "passed" the evaluation, the worst rated services were the public toilets, and footpaths, which both received a rating of three points, 'adequate'.
Calpe Mayor, Ana Sala, stressed that "the priority for the coming summer season is to renew the footpath infrastructure to improve the service and to study the possibility of extending the public toilets on the beaches".
Meanwhile, Calpe Fishermen's Guild, marine researchers and the town council plan to tackle issues below the surface of the municipality's coast with a seabed clean-up day on Saturday November 20.
