ARCHIVED - Calpe public pool will remain closed until next summer
Repair work is still being carried out at the municipal pool in the Marina Alta, Alicante province, with the facility expected to reopen before July 2022
Calpe Town Hall has announced the town's public swimming pool will reopen in "the first half of July 2022", following extensive repairs.
Whilst the local authority claims the project is "beginning to move forward" with structural repairs to the actual pool itself expected to be completed by the end of November, there are three administrative processes required prior to the reopening which are still in the bidding process.
Firstly, the economic-financial feasibility study for the indirect management of the municipal pool, although the final date for the submission of bids is Tuesday November 16.
Secondly, the contract for the repair and tuning of the pool's thermo-technology, basically the systems that guarantee the temperature, humidity and air exchange inside the facility.
And the third process also in the tendering phase is the supply of electricity, with bids having already been submitted.
Earlier this year, Calpe's Sports Department drew up the specifications for the management of the facility, which aims to "offer a service at affordable prices, exempting clubs with federated sportsmen and women from having to pay".
Training and the staging of official competitions will also be free of charge to local sports clubs and organisations that promote aquatic sports.
"In addition, the successful management bidder must include swimming courses for babies, introductory and advanced courses for children and adults, activities for seniors and aquafitness amongst others," expained Calpe Town Hall.
In 2013, the local council and Calpe Swimming Club signed an agreement whereby the club took over the operation of the municipal pool, but this agreement ended in October 2020 and the service was put out to tender.
In the meantime, a review of the facilities highlighted "serious deficiencies" and the pool was closed to enable repair work to be carried out.
