Camposol gardening groups deal with palm trees as Council contract proceeds slowly
As the 5-million-euro municipal gardening contract grinds through the tender process Camposol groups lend a hand to smarten up the area
Residents and visitors alike will hopefully have seen the sterling work carried out by the gardening groups on the Camposol urbanisation in dealing with and trimming the palm trees along the spinal Avenida de los Covachos dual carriageway and the roundabouts. This work is carried out in addition to all the other jobs undertaken by gardening groups to improve the appearance of the urbanisation.
Palm trees do not simply look after themselves, as homeowners who have them in their gardens will know only too well, and the work has been carried out within strict health and safety considerations . Where the palms are too high for the gardening groups professionals have been engaged, which costs money and the groups are always grateful to the residents and homeowners who contribute to the collections, some of which is used for the lopping of the palm trees.
The last few of the overhanging palm trees on the section of the dual carriageway adjacent to C Sector South were trimmed on Wednesday January 18 and this will enhance the appearance of the area. As can be seen from the before and after pictures the trees were in a sorry state!
There is more good news in that the future work on the maintenance of the trees in the areas mentioned as well as areas on all sectors will fall within the auspices of the new municipality wide gardening and maintenance contract awarded by Mazarrón Ayuntamiento (Mazarrón Council), costing over 5 million euros. This will see the trees maintained on a regular basis and hopefully will allow the gardening groups to undertaken other types of work and projects to improve the urbanisation.
A spokesperson for one of the gardening groups said “The fact the council contractors will now be looking after the palm trees on the urbanisation is good news for us as we will be able to concentrate on other areas that have been neglected and continue to make improvements for those that live here”.
The gardening groups on all sectors of Camposol are always seeking new volunteers to join them in their endeavours, if you are interested and able to assist your help will be gratefully received.
