Cartagena approves €1.6 million for new homes close to La Manga Club
The approval covers 61 new homes across two developments, as the council works to ease planning and support a challenging property market

The Cartagena city council has given the green light for 61 new homes across two developments, with a total investment topping €4 million. This comes at a time when the local property market in Murcia is tough, with buyers facing limited options and rising prices. According to Mayor Noelia Arroyo, the council is taking an active role in supporting new projects to help the local market and keep housing options growing.
The first location is on Atamaría, close to La Manga Club, where 23 homes will be built on an 8,000m² plot with a €1.6 million investment. According to Arroyo, this development will consist of modern two- and three-bedroom homes, giving buyers a new option in a coastal area that has been growing in popularity but has historically struggled to see new housing.
“These projects are a clear sign that new housing is finally gaining momentum, both in the city centre and along the coast,” Arroyo said, also referencing the 88 homes approved in Nueva Cartagena last September.
Meanwhile, a second project on Calle Juan Fernández in the city centre will add 38 apartments, also with two and three bedrooms, and a €2.5 million investment. The building will front both Calle Juan Fernández and Jiménez de la Espada, expanding housing choices in a well-established part of the historic centre.
The council has been actively supporting developers, helping to speed up planning approvals and offering construction tax discounts of up to 95%. This approach is designed to make building new homes faster and easier, particularly important in a market where finding available land and dealing with all the bureaucracy can be difficult.
“We know the market is tough, so anything we can do to make it easier for new homes to get built is a win for everyone,” said Mayor Noelia Arroyo.
The council is also studying a project for 450 homes in San Ginés and continuing public housing in La Concepción area.
