Cheap summer travel for youngsters in Spain extended to all nationalities
Discount bus and train tickets for travel throughout Spain will be available until September 30
For the second summer running, the government has given the green light to discounted bus and train travel for youngsters born between 1994 and 2006. But the biggest and most exciting change to the Summer Youth 2024 Programme is that the huge savings can be enjoyed by Spanish residents of all nationalities, not just European citizens.
With an investment of 130 million euros, young travellers between the ages of 18 and 30 will be able to take advantage of discounts of up to 90% between July 1 and September 30, which means the promotion this year is also 15 days longer than in 2023.
The discounts will range from 90% for conventional medium-distance services and for regular state bus trips, up to 50% in Avant, High Speed AVE (with a maximum of 30 euros per ticket), as well as Global Flexible Interrail passes (travel of between 10 days and 2 months) sold by Renfe.
To qualify for the discounts, youngsters will have to register on a website that the Ministry will enable in the coming days with their DNI, NIE or passport. Once registered, passengers will receive a personal, non-transferable code that they must use to purchase the Interrail pass or discounted train and bus tickets on the websites of the respective operators.
"We are convinced that the Young Summer 2024 will exceed last year's figures and will contribute to expanding the knowledge that our young people have of their country, at the same time enhancing their autonomy and personal relationships. Travelling is probably one of the contributions that can most enrich a person who is learning," said the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente.
The similar programme last summer was a roaring success which enabled more than 1.13 million young people between 18 and 30 years old to discover Spain. In total, four million trips were recorded between June 15 and September 15, of which 60% were made by rail and the rest by road.
