Coffee shop in Murcia nominated to be best café in the world for 2025
The world’s best 100 coffee shops contest will reveal the list of the best cafes next February
Murcia café Vértigo y Calambre has made the list of nominations for the 100 best coffee shops in the world for 2025. The well known cafe in the centre of Murcia city is run by Laura and María, who opened the café in March 2023.
The rise in popularity in the café has been unbelievable since it first served a cup of coffee less than two years ago.
The owners have stated that they just “We to value what we like the most: breakfast.” In order to value breakfast the owners wanted to create something “different that hadn’t been done before in Murcia”.
That is why the now-famous café decided to focus on brunch and sought to perfect that meal that falls between breakfast and lunch. The café not only specialises in food, however; the list of the world’s best cafés has pointed to their superb speciality coffee that was designed to “delight the palate”.
This recognition is not the first to be bestowed on the establishment since its opening. Just a few months ago, it was the only one in the Region of Murcia that entered The Best Coffee Shops list, which includes the 61 best establishments of this type in Spain.
The next challenge for the two young women running Vértigo y Calambre is to get a place on the list of The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops, where they will compete, not only to be among the top one hundred, but also to take first place in the ranking.
The competition, like the café, is relatively new and this is in fact the first year in which it is being held. The competition has been created in order to compile a list of a hundred establishments that stand out, as their organisers indicate, for all aspects related to the coffee-drinking experience.
The gala to decide the winner will be held in Madrid on February 17, within the framework of the Coffee Fest, the largest event in the coffee sector. The criteria to be taken into account in the judging are coffee quality, barista experience, customer service, innovation, atmosphere, sustainability practices, quality of the food and consistency.
