Controversy as Spain v Denmark match to be played in Murcia sells out in less than an hour
Real Murcia’s Enrique Roca stadium sold out in minutes for match on October 12 which sees European champions Spain take on Denmark
The Region of Murcia will host the Nations League match at the Enrique Roca Stadium at Nueva Condomina on October 12. The game is a group match-up between Spain and Denmark. As Football fans from all corners of the Region of Murcia clamoured for tickets, the event sold out in less than an hour, but controversially many tickets have appeared for resale on several portals for five times more than their original price.
The tickets were officially offered for sale on the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) website at 5pm on September 18 priced from 20 to 75 euros and all sectors were sold at high speed. Many fans were angered by the fact that there was no preference for Real Murcia season ticket holders. Others complained that it was only announced on the morning of the ticket sale that the window would open at 5pm leaving little time to arrange phone calls only to find out that all the tickets had already been sold with many fans still on hold an hour after all the tickets were gone.
The Spanish team kept the whole nation glued to the television last summer eventually beating England 2 – 1 in the final to win the European Championship. Spain, who have 4 points from the first 2 matches now face the Danish national team on Saturday, October 12 at 8.45 pm. in a match which gives both teams the chance of becoming leader of their group in the Nations League. The competition that Spain won last year.
The Enrique Roca de Murcia stadium is no stranger to controversy, having been handed an extensive “snagging list” after UEFA officials visited to check viability of the stadium’s specification to host Spain-Denmark match in June. The stadium was also a strong contender to host matches in the 2030 World Cup which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco but did not make the list when the venues were officially announced in July.
Although 4 venues for training camps were selected in the Murcia region, being The Grand Hyatt, Mar Menor, Conadao de Alhama, The Double Tree at La Torre and the San Pedro del Pinatar Arena. The state of the pitch was heavily criticised after a World Cup qualifying match against Bosnia-Herzegovina on September 6, 2008.
No doubt all thought of controversy will evaporate on October 12 when Murcia and the nation hope to see Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Fabián Ruiz turn on the magic in their duel against Denmark.
