Cooler weather on the way: Spain forecast Oct 9-12
Towards the end of the week, an Atlantic front will bring rain and stormy intervals to northern Spain
The days are numbered for the unseasonably warm weather Spain has been experiencing of late and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a significant change beginning on National Day, Fiesta Nacional de España, on October 12.
Ahead of this though, the temperatures should continue to be between 10 and 15ºC above normal for this time of year, “more typical of the end of August than almost mid-October,” according to Aemet spokesperson Ruben del Campo.
Monday October 9
The pleasant weather will continue in most of the country and the Balearic Islands on Monday with very slightly cloudy or clear skies forecast throughout. Along the Mediterranean and southeastern coasts, the morning will get off to an overcast and foggy start but this should pass quickly, although a few isolated showers are a possibility in the Strait.
Daytime temperatures won’t change much although the mercury could drop by a degree or two in mainland Spain, while the Canary Islands will bask in summer-like heat.
Andalucia has been issued with a yellow weather warning for rough seas until 8pm.
Tuesday October 10
Temperatures will remain extremely high in the Canary Islands but will continue to decrease elsewhere; however, the thermometers will still hover around the high 20s or low 30s in most places.
It should be another cloudless day with some intervals of low morning clouds in the Mediterranean and inland southeast.
Wednesday October 11
The stable weather will prevail in most of Spain on Wednesday but an approaching Atlantic front in the extreme northwest will lead to overcast skies later in the day. This will also spread to the Mediterranean coast and Cantabria, and some light drizzle is likely around the Strait.
Daytime temperatures shouldn’t experience any major changes, with the exception of the Canary Islands, where the mercury will drop, but it will still be much warmer than we’d normally expect for this time of the year.
Thursday October 12
The Atlantic weather front will continue to impact northern Spain on Thursday, bringing plenty of rain and cloudiness to Galicia in the evening. The rest of the country should enjoy mostly clear weather after a slight overcast start in the south.
Nighttime temperatures will remain largely unchanged but the day will be noticeably cooler in Galicia and the Canary Islands.
