Corvera Airport welcomes record 300,000 passengers in strong start to 2025
Passenger numbers in May alone surged by 3.2% while flight operations increased by 7% in the first five months

The Region of Murcia International Airport is riding a wave of steady growth, welcoming nearly 300,000 passengers during the first five months of 2025. The Murcia base, more commonly known as Corvera Airport, recorded 293,838 passengers from January through May, representing a solid 3.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
This positive trajectory after a rocky few years seems to reflect the airport's growing role as a gateway to southeastern Spain, especially for international travellers.
As always, passengers from abroad continue to dominate Corvera Airport's traffic, accounting for the vast majority of travellers. The airport handled 261,580 international passengers during the five-month period, representing a healthy 4.6% increase year over year.
But in contrast, domestic travel showed a different pattern, with national routes experiencing a 3.4% decline to 31,599 passengers.
While passenger numbers grew at a steady pace, flight operations showed even more dramatic improvement. Corvera Airport increased its flight movements by an impressive 7% during the first five months of the year, managing 2,538 total operations.
This would suggest that airlines are showing more confidence in Corvera, something that’s reflected in the 2025 summer season with more new routes than ever.
Looking specifically at May 2025, the airport maintained its positive momentum with 103,602 passengers, reflecting a 3% increase over the previous May. However, flight operations told a different story for the month, declining 4.2% to 782 movements.
The airports of the Aena Group (composed of 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London-Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) handled 34.5 million passengers in May alone, exceeding the same month in 2024 by 3.8%. Aircraft movements increased 2.6% to 297,321 operations, while cargo transport grew 5.4% to 126,911 tonnes.
