Corvera kicks off the summer with new routes and a million seats on offer
Murcia now operates nine different flights to the UK and has added new national and international routes

Corvera's nine UK flights and more than a dozen other destinations signal a huge re-growth in tourism for the Region of Murcia, with tourist numbers exceeding even the most enthusiastic predictions. The return of travellers from the UK and national holidaymakers from Madrid show the strongest improvement in numbers. Buoyed by the success, Corvera airport in Murcia, recently renamed 'Aeropuerto Internacional de la Region de Murcia-Juan de la Cierva', has anticipated an influx of travellers this summer and greatly expanded its routes.
In fact, tourists from the United Kingdom accounted for 32% of all foreign travel to the Murcia Region in 2021.
To support the demand, Corvera airport has introduced three new routes, two to Norway and one national destination. The first, to Oslo, began on June 18, shortly followed by a flight between Murcia and Bergen on Sunday June 19. Also on Saturday 18th, flights with Bilbao were launched, bringing to six the number of national routes operating out of the Region.
Corvera only opened its doors in 2019 and was devastated by the onset of Covid, but this year airport bosses estimate that the location will recover 96% of its pre-pandemic passenger figures. During the high season almost one million seats will be on offer (954,344 seats) up until October 30, during which time as many as 76 weekly round trips will be in operation. This is an impressive 355% increase compared to 2021.
With the addition of Bilbao, Corvera airport now has six routes within Spain, as it joins those already in operation to Mallorca, Menorca, the Canary Islands, Oviedo and Santander. Likewise, three connections with Belgium (Antwerp, Bruges/Ostend and Charleroi), two with Morocco (Casablanca and Oujda) and one with the Czech Republic (Prague) are currently underway.
To cater to the renewed interest of tourists from the UK, Murcia has nine different options – Bournemouth, East Midlands, Glasgow, Bristol, London Stansted, London Luton, Birmingham, London Gatwick and Manchester along with regular flights to Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.
