Costa Blanca courts Hollywood as Alicante steps up its film industry ambitions
The province is meeting major international studios in a bid to attract film and television productions and bring more business to local communities
From Marvel and Disney to Netflix and HBO, some of the biggest names in entertainment are on the Costa Blanca Film Commission's radar as Alicante steps up efforts to attract international film and television productions. The organisation is attending the fifth Shooting Locations Marketplace in Valladolid, running from Wednesday October 14 to Friday October 16, with a packed programme of meetings aimed at production companies, location managers and industry professionals.
The Costa Blanca is using the event to showcase its coastal, natural and urban locations to studios looking for places to film their next productions.
The international companies represented at the event include Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios, Disney+, Netflix, HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery, Sony Pictures Television, NBCUniversal, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Studios and ITV Studios. Spanish production companies Atresmedia Cine and Mandarina Producciones are also among those taking part.
More than 60 international companies and professionals are attending, giving the Alicante delegation an opportunity to present locations suited to different creative and technical requirements.
It is the fourth time the Costa Blanca Film Commission has participated in the marketplace, following its recent appearance at Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid.
Jose Mancebo, director of the provincial tourism agency, said the latest initiative would help continue the work carried out in Madrid, "once again placing the Costa Blanca at the heart of national and international industry decisions."
The campaign forms part of the Alicante Provincial Council's wider tourism promotion strategy for 2026, which includes efforts to strengthen the province's position in the audiovisual market.
The push follows recent similar interest in Gran Canaria as a possible filming destination for Amazon MGM Studios, highlighting how Spanish destinations are looking to attract major screen productions.
For Alicante, the attraction goes beyond the chance to see its landscapes on screen. Film crews can generate spending in hotels, restaurants, shops, transport and other local services, while creating work for professionals and businesses involved in different stages of production.
There is also the potential for films and television series to encourage visitors to explore places they have seen on screen, a trend known as screen tourism.
The provincial tourism board believes attracting productions could also help develop Alicante's own audiovisual industry, encouraging investment in equipment and infrastructure while creating more opportunities for local technicians, companies and creative professionals.
The aim is to make the Costa Blanca not just a destination for holidaymakers, but an increasingly attractive place for the international film and television industry.
