Costa del Sol capital ranks third in the world for digital nomads
Málaga is Europe’s top destination and is beaten only by Dubai and Abu Dhabi internationally
Málaga has secured its spot as one of the top destinations for digital nomads worldwide, according to the Global Index for Executive Nomads by Savills. This index looks at how various changes impact the real estate sector globally, including social, demographic, environmental and technological shifts.
Málaga takes the crown as the best destination for nomadic executives in Europe, and globally, it only trails behind Dubai and Abu Dhabi, beating out popular spots like Miami, the Caribbean and Bali.
In 2023, Málaga was second only to Dubai, and staying on the podium this year underscores its ongoing appeal to remote-working professionals.
“This positioning confirms once again what we had already been observing: Málaga has established itself as the preferred destination for people who can work remotely for most of the time and this is very positive,” said the director of Savills Andalucía, José Félix Párez-Peña.
In the global comparison, Málaga stands out "clearly for its quality of life," according to the consultancy's analysis. "Thanks to its culture, gastronomy and climate, combined with a comparatively more affordable cost of high-end housing compared to other international destinations and the launch of Spain's digital nomad visa, Málaga has attracted executives who have the option of working remotely for long periods," it notes.
The Costa del Sol’s appeal is further boosted by the arrival of major companies like Google, which has ramped up business activity and led to the creation of new co-working spaces tailored to professionals’ needs.
On this note, Savills points out that today’s digital nomads aren’t just young backpackers; many are older executives who often move with their families. They prioritise lifestyle factors like safety, healthcare, education and housing with plenty of space.
In addition to quality of life, the Savills Nomad Executive Index ranks the 25 most attractive destinations based on variables such as Internet speed, air connectivity, prime rental housing prices and climate.
As for the two cities at the top of the global ranking, both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Savills explains, excel in several categories and "offer everything needed to thrive personally and professionally, from modern infrastructure to a high quality of life."
