ARCHIVED - Courts ratify Murcia restrictions limiting gatherings to 10 people
The Region of Murcia has decided to limit to 10 the number of people that can meet informally in light of surging Covid infections
As a result of the rising numbers of Covid infections in this fifth wave of the pandemic, the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the TSJ of the Region of Murcia decided on Thursday, July 22 to ratify the measure proposed by the regional government to limit informal meetings to groups of a maximum of ten people, with the exception of cohabitants.
The temporary measure will remain in place until 11:59pm on August 3. The Ministry of Health insists that the restriction is necessary to control the further spread of the virus, particularly among the younger age group, while still allowing for family and social interaction.
As the national state of alarm has now ended, the regional government must seek the approval of the courts for any measures which restrict the constitutional rights of citizens under the Spanish Constitution legislation.
The courts will only authorise restrictions if they consider them necessary.
This week the Murcia region remains in level two, medium risk, with 31 of the 45 municipalities having been moved up to high-risk. The high-risk areas are subject to further restrictions, with bars and restaurants being limited to a 30 per cent capacity indoors, where customers must remain seated and are not permitted to sit at the bar.
In level 2 municipalities, the indoor capacity of bars and restaurants will be 50% and outdoor 100%.
Also in level three areas, the sale of alcohol will be prohibited between 10pm and 6am in locations such as petrol stations (restaurants, bars and nightclubs are not included) with the aim of reducing large gatherings of youngsters and slowing the spread of the virus in those aged between 15 and 29.
The latest data shows that this group continues to be at the highest risk in the Region of Murcia, with a total of 951 infections reported in the last week alone, which represents a staggering 56.3 per cent of all cases.
