Covid cases jump 125% in just one week across the Valencian Community
The rise in coronavirus cases has so far not resulted in a significant increase in hospital admissions
Data from the Valencian Community's Surveillance System for Acute Respiratory Infections (SiVIRA) shows that Covid incidence reached 117.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during week 38 of 2026, covering September 14 to 20. The previous week's figure was 52 cases per 100,000.
The increase in Covid infections has contributed to a wider rise in respiratory illnesses across the region. The combined incidence of influenza, Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) increased by 26%, climbing from 426.6 to 537.4 cases per 100,000 people.
That regional figure is also around twice the national rate of 264 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Young children are currently recording the highest levels of respiratory infections. Among those aged under four, incidence jumped from 1,244.3 to 2,332 cases per 100,000 people in a single week, an increase of around 87%.
The figures indicate particularly high levels of respiratory virus circulation among very young children as the autumn season gets underway.
There has also been an increase among people aged over 65, although the rise has been considerably smaller. Incidence in this age group went from 424 to 469.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of around 11%.
The latest figures show different trends among the main respiratory viruses being monitored.
While Covid infections have risen sharply, the incidence of severe influenza infections has fallen. The rate dropped from 24.3 cases per 100,000 people in week 37 to 15 cases per 100,000 in week 38.
RSV, which is a major cause of bronchiolitis in young children, remained at zero cases in both weeks covered by the latest report.
Despite the increase in respiratory infections, there has not yet been a corresponding rise in hospital admissions for severe acute respiratory infections.
The rate stood at 9.6 admissions per 100,000 people in week 37 before falling slightly to 9 admissions per 100,000 in week 38.
The latest figures therefore show a substantial increase in Covid and overall respiratory infections across the Valencian Community, while hospital admissions have so far remained broadly stable.
