ARCHIVED - Damp and dreary week ahead: Spain weather forecast Feb 13-16
The week will be a little warmer but widespread showers are expected in southern Spain
After a cold but mostly dry weekend, Spain is facing yet another week of unsettled weather which will gradually worsen from Monday February 13 when a deep polar trough is set to descend on the west of the country. The worst affected area is likely to be the Mediterranean coast, although the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) hasn’t ruled out that rainfall will extend to the rest of Spain later in the week.
"Everything seems to indicate that a DANA or cold storm will be generated between the south of the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco," the experts explain, an episode that would lead to "a new rainstorm, which would be more abundant in the Mediterranean and in the surroundings of the Strait of Gibraltar-Alboran Sea."
In general, this coming week "will leave temperatures above the normal average for the season, except in the Mediterranean area," summarised Aemet spokesperson, Rubén del Campo.
Monday February 13
Monday will be overcast and showery throughout the country with some morning mists forecast inland and to the south.
The temperatures will rise in the northwest of the country and will change little in the Balearic Islands and the rest of Spain, hovering around the high teens in Alicante and Murcia.
Andalucia is under an orange weather warning throughout Monday for strong winds and choppy seas.
Tuesday February 14
Tuesday will be dull and dreary in the south with light rain and cloudy intervals forecast once more.
Morning mists will likely hit the southeast early on while there could be haze in the eastern Canary Islands.
Daytime temperatures will rise ever so slightly in the southeast, northwest and the Balearic Islands but will tend to fall in the rest of the country.
An east or southeasterly wind will predominate Tuesday, tending to be more blustery in coastal areas.
Andalucia maintains its warning for winds and adverse sea conditions and a yellow alert has been extended to Aragón and Ceuta.
Wednesday February 15
Very little change is expected as we move into the middle of the week although Aemet has placed Andalucia, Melilla, Ceuta and Extremadura on alert for possible calimas.
Wednesday will be cloudy and the storm will likely bring rain to the south, although the temperatures will rise pretty much everywhere, with the exception of the extreme north.
Murcia and Alicante will top out at around 17ºC but highs of 21ºC could be reached in Seville.
Thursday February 16
It’s by no means certain how the storm will evolve on Thursday but for the moment, Aemet is forecasting cloudy intervals in the southeast of Spain and hasn’t ruled out some weak showers.
Daytime temperatures will take a welcome upswing in most of the country but the thermometers will drop considerably on Thursday night in a large past of the interior.
There are no weather warnings in place.
