Dead body found near Cartagena lighthouse this weekend
So far, no details are known about the identity of the dead person except that it is a male
A corpse was found this Saturday afternoon, February 17, floating in the water in the area of the Faro de Navidad lighthouse in Cartagena, according to police reports.
The body was found at around 6.10pm, when the 112 emergency services received a call alerting them to the discovery. Specifically, the witness indicated that the body was floating about two metres from the lighthouse.
Local police officers were quickly dispatched to the scene and confirmed that it was the body of a man, floating in the water without moving. A boat from the Maritime Service of the Armed Forces was quickly sent out to retrieve the body.
The body has been taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine so an autopsy can be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death, while investigations continue to try to determine the identification of the person.
Earlier this month, another dead man was found on the Playa de Calnegre beach in La Manga. The man was wearing fins and a wetsuit, leading police to believe that it was someone who was scuba diving and probably felt unwell in the water.
