December 1 Guided hike to commemorate the bicentenary of the death of bandit Jaime El Barbudo
Explore the hiking paths of the Sierra de la Pila in Abarán and see a dramatized re-enactment of Jaime’s death in 1824
On July 5 this year it was exactly 200 years since the renowned bandit Jaime “El Barbudo” was executed in the Cueva de la Excomunión in the mountains of the Sierra de la Pila, one of his preferred hideouts, and to commemorate the bicentenary the Asociación Cultural "La Carraila" is organizing this guided 9-kilometre hike, which includes a dramatized telling of the bandit’s story at the site of his death, performed by the Compañía "Diente de León".
The route follows the hiking path named after Jaime "El Barbudo" (PR-MU 121) in the Sierra de la Pila, and is scheduled to last from 9.00 to 14.00. It is of low to medium difficulty but of course participants should be wearing appropriate hiking gear and bring along a rucksack containing drinking water and a snack.
Registration is open until November 28, costing 12 euros (9 euros for those registered as official hikers) and can be completed by email to lacarraila@gmail.com. Once registration is completed further information will be supplied.
The maximum group size is limited to 25.
