December 27 to January 4 Annual Fiestas and Braying competition in Las Balsicas
The bizarre donkey braying event is the highlight for many in this Mazarrón village
The annual fiestas of the village of Las Balsicas, which is tucked away in the hills between Puerto de Mazarrón and Mazarrón, are taking place this year over the weekends either side of New Year, with the following events included in the schedule:
Friday December 27
21.00: Opening speech and cake with hot chocolate.
22.00: Live music from Vértigo.
Saturday December 28
9.30: Procession in honour of “La Purísima”, accompanied by the drum band of the church of San José in Puerto de Mazarrón and the traditional “Cante de Pascua” hymn.
13.00: Migas competition.
16.00: Children’s activities.
19.30: Musical bingo.
20.00: Traditional music and dancing by “cuadrillas” from La Marina de Cope, Tallante, Isla Plana, Los Auroras de Lorca and Las Balsicas.
Sunday December 29
12.00: Mass is followed by the traditional braying competition and a song auction.
14.00: Giant communal paella.
16.00: Musical bingo.
18.00: Live music from David Andreu.
20.30: Dj Josemix.
Saturday January 4
10.00: Caliche tournament.
12.00: Music and fun for children.
16.00: Roscón de Reyes cake for all.
16.30 Live music from Los Luisos.
18.30: Dj Ruby.
20.30: Noche Remember with Dj Horacio, Dj Mateo and Dj Miguel Flores.
Midnight: Fireworks to signal the end of the fiestas.
