ARCHIVED - easyJet becomes latest airline to ditch masks on flights
Ryanair, British Airways and Jet2 have also ended the mask-wearing requirement on flights
easyJet announced on Wednesday March 23 that it will no longer require passengers to wear masks on domestic flights within the UK, except on journeys arriving in or departing from Scotland. The relaxed restriction also applies to flights to Gibraltar, Denmark, Hungary and Iceland.
At the beginning of March, Jet2 became the first carrier to announce it was ditching masks on its flights to certain destinations, and the move was swiftly followed by other major airlines such as Tui and British Airways, while Ryanair will no longer require masks on any of its planes from April 1.
easyJet said that it will no longer “mandate customers and crew to wear masks onboard the flight,” but that any “customers or crew who wish to continue wearing a mask will of course have their personal choice respected.
“As a pan-European airline operating between over 30 countries, we must continue to ensure that we and our customers follow the legal requirements of all the countries we fly to.”

To this end, passengers flying to Italy and several other European destinations will still need to wear a mask, and it’s important to note the regulations in the destination country. Spain, for example, continues to require people to wear masks indoors, and this includes airports and public transport.
easyJet also applauded the UK’s decision earlier this month to remove the remaining Covid travel restrictions.
An airline spokesperson said: “Brilliant news, the UK Government has announced that from March 18, you won’t need to fill out a passenger locator form or take any test to fly to the UK.
“We can’t wait to welcome you back on board soon.”
