ARCHIVED - Jet2 scraps facemasks on flights from England and Northern Ireland
It is the first airline to ditch the Covid mask rule from the UK to popular holiday hotspots like Spain
Jet2 has become the first airline to abolish the requirement of wearing masks on its flights, after other major carriers such as Ryanair and BA said recently that they would not make a decision on the restriction until all the major airlines were in agreement.
From now on passengers travelling with Jet2 to Spain and other destinations from England and Northern Ireland won’t have to wear face shields while on the plane, although masks will still need to be worn inside the airport and on any transfer services, depending on the local regulations.

A statement on the Jet2 website explains: "It’s no longer a legal requirement to wear a face mask at our airports or onboard our planes. However, as per UK Government guidance, we recommend that you continue to wear a face mask in these spaces, and you will need to wear one when you get to your overseas destination."
It’s important to note that all passengers over the age of six departing from Scotland will still need to wear facemasks both in the airport and on the plane, even if they are double jabbed.
The airline has warned passengers that "there may also be additional face mask restrictions in some places, and the rules around ages may differ per destination too".
As of February 24, it is no longer a legal requirement to wear masks in England or Scotland.
The relaxation of restrictions is opening up more and more holiday options for British travellers, and earlier this week Spain announced that it would accept travellers with a Covid recovery cert from the UK. In addition, third country travellers can now freely enter the country with WHO-approved jabs, including those developed in China and India, and Spain no longer requires UK teenagers to be fully vaccinated.
