ARCHIVED - easyJet cabin crew in Spain call off strike
The airline has agreed to a 22% pay hike for its Spanish crew
There’s finally some good news for travellers as easyJet cabin crew have announced an end to their strike action on Thursday July 28. The workers have been staging work stoppages throughout July at their three Spanish bases, Malaga, Barcelona and Mallorca, and the latest disruptions had been planned for July 29, 30 and 31.
Trade union USO announced that the airline has agreed to implement a 22% pay rise in basic salaries over the next three years as well as guaranteeing improved working conditions.
From March this year, a 4% salary hike will be applied retroactively; this will increase to 13% in 2023 and 5% in 2024. In addition, cabin crew will receive special compensation for working on scheduled days off from January 1 next year.

The general secretary of the USO union for easyJet, Miguel Galán, said that the agreement represents an “important” shift towards the working conditions of airline crew across Europe, despite "not being exactly what we were demanding".
"Independently, we continue with the negotiations of the agreement in all sections that are not of an economic nature with the aim of improving our working conditions," he added.
It’s not all plain sailing, however, as Ryanair flight attendants across Spain have voted to continue their industrial action until January. The airline is flatly refusing to enter into pay negotiations with the unions, who feel they have been left with no alternative than to extend their strike action, which will run between Monday and Thursday each week, from August 8.
