ARCHIVED - Easyjet cancels another 240 flights
Major disruptions are expected until June 6
The past few days have been marred by travel chaos, with queues of passengers waiting for hours in airports across Europe and easyJet grounding around 200 flights on Thursday May 26 due to IT issues.
The disruptions are far from over, however, and the popular budget carrier has announced that it will be forced to cancel around 240 flights, averaging 24 per day, between now and June 6 from London Gatwick.
easyJet has apologised for the short notice of many of the flight cancellations but has insisted that the upcoming disruption is “necessary to provide reliable services during this busy period”.
At the weekend, thousands of Liverpool FC fans travelling to Paris for the Champions League Final were affected by the cancellations and long lines were reported both at the Port of Dover and at several UK airports, including Gatwick, Manchester, Stansted and Bristol.
“Over the next week we will operate some 1,700 flights per day, with around a quarter of these services to and from Gatwick,” an airline representative said.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled in the coming days can opt for a refund and compensation, or take an alternative flight.

Meanwhile, TUI also cancelled dozens of flights at the weekend due to various “operational and supply chain” problems such as works being carried out on the runways and air traffic restrictions.
“The delays have been due to a combination of factors and we are doing our best to keep customers up to date. We will provide refreshments and, where appropriate, hotel accommodation,” TUI said in a statement.
According to FlightAware, more than 4,500 flights were cancelled throughout Europe; Friday was the most chaotic day, with 2,300 cancellations, Saturday saw 1,500 and the rest occurred on Sunday.
