EasyJet flights from Gatwick to Murcia cancelled and delayed by Covid
Air traffic control crews at the London airport have faced staff shortages, creating travel mayhem
Due to a recent outbreak of Covid-19 among air traffic control staff at London Gatwick Airport, there have been flight delays and cancellations, including to the Region of Murcia International Airport.
The UK’s National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said the disruption was due to “short-notice staff sickness including some incidences of Covid”.
It is thought that around 8,000 passengers have had their travel plans disrupted between Sunday September 25 and Monday 26, and there is the possibility of more flight trouble if the staff shortages due to Covid-19 are not filled.
On Sunday, easyJet flight U26525 from Gatwick to Murcia’s Corvera Airport, scheduled to depart at 5.20pm, had to be cancelled.

EasyJet made up dozens of the flights affected, but some of them ended up being delayed by as much as seven hours.
There are two daily connections between Murcia and Gatwick, but it is hoped that normality can be restored and there will be no more cancellations or delays.
This is the third time in just a month that air traffic control staff sickness has caused travel chaos at Gatwick, following similar incidents on September 6 and September 14. Before that, there was also a technical glitch on August 28 which caused widespread disruption at airports across the UK, leaving thousands of holidaymakers stranded.
