ARCHIVED - Elderly woman dies after being pulled unconscious from the sea in San Javier
The pensioner drowned at Castillicos beach in Santiago de la Ribera
In yet another beach tragedy in the Region of Murcia, an elderly woman has died whilst bathing at Castillicos beach in Santiago de la Ribera.
The alarm was raised at around 12.15pm on Sunday July 24 after the woman, whose exact age has not been made public, was pulled unconscious from the water by other beachgoers in the municipality of San Javier.
Along with the Guardia Civil and Local Police, Murcia's Plan Copla coastal safety personnel were quickly on the scene and attempted to revive the victim by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques while waiting for a Mobile Emergency Unit. Sadly, there was no response and they could only confirm the woman's death.

Hours earlier, a 17-year-old boy sustained serious craniocerebral trauma after jumping off cliffs at Cabo Flores in Cartagena and plunging into shallow water, smashing his head. The teen remains in a serious condition at Santa Lúcia Hospital.
And last week, a 75-year-old man drowned on the Playa de los Nietos beach in Cartagena. The elderly bather was also pulled out of the water unconscious and unresponsive and after 10 minutes of CPR, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier this month, tragedy was narrowly averted when lifeguards working as part of the Copla Plan rescued a 76-year-old woman in distress from the waves at Puntas de Calnegre in Lorca.
