ARCHIVED - Emblematic flamingos adorn Torrevieja roundabout
€18,500 invested in striking sculptures in the Vega Baja, Alicante province.
Torrevieja Council has remodelled one of its main access roundabouts on the CV-905 with the addition of 28 beautiful two-metre high pink flamingos.
The striking sculptures, carved in polystyrene with a fiberglass exterior, now have pride of place in the centre of the roundabout, following an investment of €18,500 aimed at "creating a colourful visual display" for those who live in and visit the town.
This is the first of two "beautification of traffic islands projects" in Torrevieja, with a second planned at the fountain on Avenida Desiderio Rodriguez in Mar Azul-La Veleta, scheduled for early next September, so as not to affect heavy summer traffic in August.
Torrevieja is renowned for its graceful pink flamingos which inhabit the rose-tinted Las Salinas lake, a hugely popular tourist attraction near the Laguna de la Mata water reserve.
