EU citizen living in Spain? Register to vote in parliamentary elections by the end of this month
Nationals of EU countries who live in Spain can vote in the European elections this year if they register before January 30
European Parliament elections are taking place on June 9, 2024, and EU nationals who live in Spain and wish to vote need to register by January 30.
If you have Spanish nationality and reside in Spain, you do not have to take any steps; the authorities will register you on the electoral roll automatically.
In order for nationals of other EU countries to register, eligible voters must fill out a form specifically for this purpose and present the documentation requested by the local town hall (ayuntamiento) where they are registered on the padrón.
It is possible to vote by post but not by proxy.
Before the elections, the Spanish Electoral Census Office (OCE) will send a notification to all EU citizens who are registered and have not previously expressed their intention to vote to remind them to do so.
You can check if you are already registered to vote in the European elections on the website of the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) or by asking at your ayuntamiento.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is expected to hold a general election in the second half of 2024, and as of this week UK citizens resident in Spain can register vote in those elections following the revocation of the ‘15-years-away’ rule.
