ARCHIVED - European Mobility Weeks draws to a close in Aguilas with a street festival
A day of music, theatre and family activities was held in Águilas' Calle Conde de Aranda in the Region of Murcia's south west
Almost 3,000 EU towns and cities, including Murcia's Águilas, marked European Mobility Week 2022 (September 16-22) to raise awareness about new forms of clean mobility, take stock of current transport challenges, and "progress towards more sustainable mobility" through a range of activities and events.
And to round off the informative but fun week, Águilas Town Hall staged a street festival in Calle Conde de Aranda on Saturday September 24 – a day of music, theatre, face-painting, inflatables and more.
"Calle Conde de Aranda has become a benchmark in the municipality in terms of pedestrian mobility, where the objective of pedestrians of all ages taking over the street has been achieved," said the Town Hall in a statement.
The street was pedestrianised last year as part of the town's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan within the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy. The project was 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through Spain's multi-regional operational programme 2014-2020.
