ARCHIVED - Extreme risk of forest fires in Alicante province: Monday June 13
As the mercury is set to reach up to 37ºC in Alicante, the Valencia government has issued a red alert for bushfires across the region
Thermometers have been rising steadily and are expected to peak over the next couple of days with the mercury set to reach sizzling heights of 37ºC in Alicante province and higher elsewhere in the region.
Not surprisingly the hot and dry conditions have intensified the chance of wildfires, and Valencia region's Emergency Coordination Centre 112 has issued a red alert due to the extreme risk of forest fires for Monday June 13 throughout Alicante province and interior areas of the Castellón and Valencia.
The alert is activated for the whole day in these particular areas, whilst the coast of Castellón and Valencia will remain at green level (low-medium risk) of danger.
Meanwhile, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast a generalised rise in maximum temperatures across Alicante over the coming days, and the province is on a yellow alert for extreme temperatures on Tuesday June 14 when the mercury will reach up to 37ºC in Alcoy and the Vega Baja region.
