Flight delays in Spain expected as French air traffic control goes on strike
The strike over French airspace will run from October 12 to 14 and is expected to impact several flights to and from Spain
Spain’s air navigation service provider, Enaire, has warned of possible delays over the coming weekend as air traffic controllers in France are set to go on strike between Thursday October 12 and Saturday October 14. The company has assured that it is already in contact with its French counterpart in order to minimise the disruption.
The industrial action is expected to impact, in particular, control centres in Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Valencia and will require many flights that usually travel through French airspace to replot their routes.
Enaire “is in permanent contact” with its French counterpart and with Eurocontrol to help reduce the impact on airlines and passengers, and a spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that France has committed to adhering to the minimum services requirements.
Last year, similar strike action grounded hundreds of flights all across Europe, although Spain was one of the least affected countries.
Meanwhile, normal operations have resumed to and from London’s Luton Airport after a huge fire in the Terminal 2 car park forced its closure for most of Wednesday October 11.
