Fugitive wanted in Norway for sexual abuse and fraud arrested in Granada
Spanish authorities catch Chilean-born Swedish man following European arrest warrant
A 66-year-old man of Chilean origin and Swedish nationality has been arrested by the Policía Nacional in the Granada metropolitan area. The arrest follows a European arrest warrant issued by Norwegian judicial authorities after the man was convicted of sexual abuse and fraud in Norway. The Fugitive Section of the Brigada Central de Crimen Organizado (Central Organized Crime Brigade) tipped off the officers, who launched a search operation that proved successful. The suspect was found early one morning in a town on Granada’s outskirts, after investigators learned he frequented the same café for breakfast. Police staked out the café and detained him there.
Identification was confirmed through his Chilean identity card and Europol data, validating the European arrest warrant. The Borgating Court of Appeal in Norway sentenced the man in 2022 for his crimes. He was brought before the National Court's Investigating Court Number One the following day.
This arrest marks another success in cross-border law enforcement cooperation aimed at locating and bringing fugitives to justice across Europe.
