Giant Christmas tree in Murcia city will be lit up on December 9
The big Christmas tree that is coming back to the Plaza Circular will be inaugurated on December 9

There is already a date for the inauguration of the big Christmas tree in Murcia city’s Plaza Circular: Saturday December 9. This was announced this Monday by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, at a press conference in which he also said that the tree will feature “a unique spectacle and big surprises”.
This surprise is that Murcia’s favourite son, tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, will be turning on the lights on the tree in a much-anticipated switch-on ceremony.
As yet, a time has not been announced for when the lights on the tree, which is 32 metres tall and topped by a 1.5-metre star, will be turned on.
Due to a combination of oversights between the Ayuntamiento and the contracting company and the Covid-19 pandemic, the Plaza Circular has not had its usual Christmas tree since 2019.
The Christmas lights in Murcia were switched on this Friday just gone, Friday November 24. On December 7, at 7pm, there will be a light show with music and 3D effects projected on the façade of Murcia City Hall. This will be shown daily all throughout the Christmas period.
On Saturday December 2, from 5.30pm, the traditional ‘Belén’ nativity scene will be available to see in the Palacio Episcopal.
