ARCHIVED - Grave injuries for Brit mum and daughter in Tenerife hit and run
A van mounted the curb and crashed into the women from behind on the popular Spanish island
A British mother and daughter have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a large van ploughed into them as they were walking near a residential area in San Miguel de Abona in Tenerife.
Witnesses described the moment a white van mounted the footpath behind the two women in Las Chafiras and mowed them down from behind. The driver of the vehicle paused briefly before speeding off in the original direction.
Police on the Spanish island have now launched a manhunt to track down the hit-and-run driver.
A spokesperson from the emergency response group said: “The emergency call we received said the two women were injured by a vehicle that mounted the pavement.
“The incident happened in an avenue called Avenida José Miguel Galván in San Miguel de Abona at around 8.30pm on Sunday.
“Police investigations are ongoing.”
The younger of the two women was taken to Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital in the island capital, Santa Cruz, suffering from serious head injuries. Her mother was transferred to Hospiten Sur with moderate rib trauma.
It is not clear whether the British mum and daughter were holidaying in Tenerife or if they live in Spain. No further details have been released about the condition of either woman.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Belfast man Paul McNulty died after falling down a flight of stairs at his Tenerife hotel. The 57-year-old father was on holiday with his family when he tripped and sustained a fatal head injury.
