ARCHIVED - Guardamar installs bat and bird boxes to control insect populations
23 boxes are being placed in parks and open spaces across the municipality in the Vega Baja, Alicante province
Almost two dozen bat and insectivorous bird nesting boxes are being erected in Guardamar del Segura to naturally control mosquito and other insect populations.
The boxes have been installed in trees and on the side of walls and buildings in different parks, green areas, along Segura River and in El Raso urbanisation.
Although there are many different methods for managing insect populations, more and more local authorities are turning to natural methods that are safer and easier on the environment.
