Half-naked drunk tourist scales huge crane on Spanish island
The French holidaymaker was filmed tottering drunkenly along the arm of the enormous machine in Ibiza
An intoxicated French tourist was dramatically rescued by local police in the Puig des Molins area of Ibiza last week after scrambling to the top of an enormous crane that had been parked up beside a building site. After sounding the alarm, several people watched on in horror as the man, dressed only in swimming trunks, tottered unsteadily along the arm of the huge machine.
The first witness to report that the holidaymaker was “in danger” of falling made the call at around 11.45am but despite the early hour, a police spokesperson reported that the French man showed “clear symptoms of intoxication.”
But as the crowd on the ground swelled and Ibiza firefighters were “preparing the equipment” to hoist him down, the tourist began making the slow climb by himself and he was escorted the rest of the way by local officers.
Police drove him back to his hotel and he was issued with a stern warning, but it seems as though no further action was taken.
According to the company that owns the crane, at the time of the incident the ongoing building work was on hold “due to the summer ban as it is close to a tourist establishment.” They were quick to point out that the equipment was “left completely locked and fenced in as required by the regulations.”
This dangerous stunt occurred just days before yet another flight from the UK had to be diverted off its course to Ibiza when a brawl broke out among intoxicated passengers. The Ryanair flight from Manchester was forced to detour to Toulouse so that the “unruly” and “disruptive” man and woman could be forcibly removed from the aircraft by French police.
