According to the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan), there are no reports of consumers becoming ill as a result of the alert, but anybody who has purchased the product is advised to return it to the point of sale as soon as possible.
For those who may have already eaten some of the frozen fruit, the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) recommends watching out for symptoms including fever, loss of appetite or fatigue, which can develop anywhere from two to seven weeks after consuming the product.
The organisation has also reassured customers that in almost all cases, Hepatitis A is cured completely with no long-term side-effects.
Earlier this month, four well-known ice-creams sold in Lidl, Aldi and Mercadona supermarkets across Spain were recalled when “foreign bodies” were found as part of a routine quality inspection in Catalonia.
