ARCHIVED - Homelander from The Boys faces a year in prison for assault while filming in Spain
Kiwi actor Antony Starr sentenced to a year in prison and must pay 5,000 euros in compensation for assaulting a young man in Alicante
Actor Antony Starr, who plays Homelander in the Amazon series ‘The Boys’, has been sentenced to a year in prison for assaulting a 21-year-old man in a pub on Calle Castaños in Alicante city.
The popular actor, from New Zealand, has pleaded guilty in a speedy trial held in the courts of Alicante and has been issued a year-long prison sentence and has been ordered to pay compensation of 5,000 euros to the victim.
Starr allegedly punched the victim and smashed a glass in his face during an altercation in the Alicante pub, causing a gash on his eyebrow, according to police sources.
The incident took place just after 2am on Wednesday morning, and the celebrity was arrested at the scene to spend the night in jail.
In the end, the young man who was assaulted had to be taken by ambulance to hospital, where he received four stitches.
Starr is most famous for his role in the superhero series ‘The Boys’, where he plays a notoriously violent character who is prone to outbursts of rage at any moment.
As Starr has no previous convictions, the judge agreed to suspend the prison sentence for a period of two years under the condition that he does not commit another crime during this period.
The actor has been defended by two lawyers from the Garrigues law firm and has left the Palace of Justice in Alicante after being detained for more than 48 hours.
Starr is in Spain filming for the new Guy Ritchie movie about Afghanistan, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, in which Alicante doubles for the Middle Eastern country. The arrest has reportedly not interfered with the filming schedule.
