Horseshoe whip snake rescued from Murcia kindergarten
The non-venomous snake was discovered in the Los Dolores area

Teachers and children in Murcia had quite a shock on Monday May 22 when they discovered an impressive horseshoe whip snake inside a nursery school in the Los Dolores district.
Specialist officers from the Local Police of Murcia were soon on the scene and managed to capture the reptile, which was then transferred to the El Valle Wildlife Recovery Centre.
Native to southwestern Europe and northern Africa, horseshoe whip snakes are a common species in scrubland in southern Spain and are even occasional visitors to rural and urban gardens. They are very efficient controllers of pests like mice and rats and although not poisonous, they can deliver a painful bite to curious humans and pets that venture too close.
