ARCHIVED - Hospital admissions drop by a further 3 per cent: Spain Covid update Mar 6
The number of people being treated in intensive care in Spain has also plummeted this week
Hospital pressure has fallen considerably this week in both general wards and intensive care, as the number of patients becoming seriously ill because of Covid diminishes each week. On the other hand, the cumulative incidence rate has experienced a slight upswing in Spain over the past few days, but the data released on Friday March 3 still indicates that the health situation is stable.
Coronavirus infections
The Ministry of Health registered an additional 7,093 cases of coronavirus on Friday, a decrease on the 7,380 infections reported on the same day last week. Of these, 4,661 positives were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 13,770,429.
Cumulative incidence rate
There’s been a two point upswing in the 14-day cumulative rate, which has risen from 56.30 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 58.79. However, this is still one of the lowest figures of the entire pandemic.
In addition, the 7-day figure, standing at 28.26, is still more than 50% below the two-week rate, an excellent indication that the health situation remains relatively stable.
When it comes to autonomous communities, La Rioja this week has the lowest incidence rate of just 15.42 cases per 100,000, while Andalucia has dropped to third place with a figure of 28.34.
Castilla y Leon is currently faring the worst, with 116.10 infections per 100,000 people while the Valencian Community is lower than the national average, with 40.85 cases, after dropping another five points in the last week.
The highest incidence continues to be recorded in people over the age of 80, with a rate of 120.06 cases this week, followed by those aged between 70 and 79 (51.76) and between 60 and 69 (32.73).
Fatalities and hospitalisations
A further 55 Covid-related fatalities have been reported in the last 7 days, bringing the total number of deaths in Spain up to 119,435.
The number of people hospitalised for Covid-19 has fallen by a further 3.2% in the last week, which ICU admissions have dropped by a substantial 11.5%. There are currently 1,827 people hospitalised in Spain with 84 being treated in intensive care for more serious conditions, a reduction of 11 compared to a week ago.
As of March 3, the Valencian Community had 173 hospitalised, which is a 1.1% decrease in the last 7 days. In Andalucia, there are 143 patients admitted, 6.5% fewer and Murcia’s admissions have fallen by a considerable 32.5%.
Vaccination data
As of March 6, 92.6% of the population over 12 (39,208,623 people) are double jabbed. In addition, 39,285,625 people over the age of 12, or 92.8% of the population, have received at least one dose.
