Public health service hospital in the Vega Baja
The Vega Baja public health service hospital in the municipality of Orihuela is located near the village of San Bartolomé, ten kilometres outside the city of Orihuela on the CV-91 road to Almoradí and Guardamar del Segura.
Equipped with 336 beds, it also has an outpatients unit and an A&E department which is due to be extended. It serves the whole of the Vega Baja area, and there are many bus services as well as ample car parking.
A heliport is available for emergencies, and visitors are able to avail themselves of the cafeteria.
Among the technology at the hospital are two CT scanners, a magnetic resonance scanner and a breast scanner.

During 2013 the Hospital Vega Baja in Orihuela dealt with 146,901 outpatient consultations and 68,423 emergencies. Over 11,500 operations were carried out, and 1,105 babies were born in the hospital.
In November 2014 the hospital employed 252 doctors, 637 other health professionals and 214 ancillary staff, boasting 319 beds, eight operating theatres, two delivery rooms and two CT scanners.
These facilities provide health care in the Vega Baja de Orihuela area to a population of 170,000, and the hospital is backed up in this area by seven health centres and 29 local surgeries. There are also two sexual health centres, two preventive dentistry units, six rehabilitation units, three mental health care units and one unit dealing with addictive behaviour and smoking.
