During the summer, the price of a 12.5kg butane canister soared to an all-time high, reaching a wallet-busting 19.55 euros. Thanks to some small return to market stability, the price of bottled gas plummeted by 4.96% on November 15 and a cylinder will now cost you a substantially cheaper 18.58 euros at the filling station.

The price of butane is actually reviewed every three months and depending on how the cost of living crisis evolves over Christmas, the cost of household gas could shoot up again in the new year.

Spain’s Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, underscored the possibility this week, warning that while gas was in no short supply in this country, increasing demand from abroad could push up the prices.

To mitigate a possible gas price increase in 2023, fuel giant Repsol has launched a new promotional campaign on its website and app whereby customers can bag a drum of butane absolutely free. The only catch is that customers will have to purchase 10 butane canisters (12.5kg or 12kg light) at one time to receive the free canister of gas.

To take advantage of the offer, simply log onto Repsol’s Pide Tu Bombona website (only available in Spanish) or the Bombona Butano Repsol app before the end of the year and order your 10 gas bottles.

Once this step has been completed, you’ll receive a coupon for the value of another free bottle, redeemable up to three months after the initial purchase.
