ARCHIVED - Huge 200-point drop in incidence rate: Murcia Covid update January 27
Hospitalisations continue to increase as Covid cases wane in the Region of Murcia
The curve of the sixth wave has begun to decrease drastically over the past few days, although more data is needed to determine whether the current wave is definitely nearing its end. Most other Covid indicators in the Region of Murcia are also declining, except the number of hospitalisations, which have been increasing since this Monday January 24.
On a national level, Spain’s incidence rate has decreased for the third consecutive day and now stands at 3,194 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past two weeks, which is considerably lower than Murcia’s incidence rate.
New and active cases
The downward trend in daily cases continues with 4,434 new cases registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 34,969; the lowest figure since January 11.
Hospitalisations
Unfortunately, nine Covid patients have required hospitalisation in the past 24 hours which means that 644 patients, of whom 84 are in intensive care, are now in the Region’s hospitals. According to the Minister of Health in the Region, 70% of the ICU patients are unvaccinated.
Fatalities
Another four people have lost their lives to the virus since the previous update, bringing the death toll in the Region up to 1,955.
Recoveries
5,492 people recovered from Covid in the past day – 273,122 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Incidence rate
A 200-point drop in the cumulative incidence rate in the last 24 hours has led to hopeful predictions that the curve could finally be declining. The 14-day incidence rate has dropped from 4,894.7 to 4,694.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the lastest update released by Murcia Salud on January 27. The 7-day incidence rate has also decreased, but on a smaller scale: from 2,096.5 to 2,021.2.
