ARCHIVED - Incidence drops to lowest level in more than a month: Spain Covid update July 18
Hospitalisations across Spain drop but ICU admissions continue to rise

The ever-upward trend of the coronavirus pandemic in Spain may have finally been broken as the incidence rate has dropped significantly in recent days, to a level not seen since June 10.
The data published by the Ministry of Health on Friday July 15 show the first major decrease in the number of infections for more than a month, which could indicate that the pandemic curve is in remission.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate among over-60s has dropped 67 points since last Tuesday to stand at 1,158 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The situation differs greatly by community: La Rioja exceeds 2,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while Andalusia (347.43) and the Balearic Islands (902.91) are the only ones below 1,000.

Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 11,713 people admitted to Spanish hospitals with coronavirus, of which 513 are being treated in the country´s ICUs for more serious conditions.
This means that 9.70% of all hospital beds are now occupied by Covid patients, a decrease on the 10% registered on Tuesday. On the other hand, intensive care occupancy rates have increased slightly, from 5.7% to 5.88%.
In the last month, the general hospital occupancy in Spain has almost doubled with the escalation of transmission by the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron variants.
The autonomous communities have reported 428 deaths in one week, bringing the number of Covid-related fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 109,348 .
That is more than one hundred deaths more than those reported last Friday, and 321 new fatalities in the last seven days.
Vaccination data
As of July 18, a total of 39,120,199 people, representing 92.7% of the population over the age of 12, have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine. In addition, 39,247,940 people, or 93%, have received at least one jab.
