ARCHIVED - Infections fall for second consecutive day: Valencia Covid update January 26
Recoveries outweigh new cases in Alicante and the rest of the region
For the second consecutive day, and the first time in weeks, new infections in the Valencia region have fallen.
In fact, there have been more recoveries than positives in the last 24 hours, and hospital admissions have stabilised slightly in the region as a whole.
However, on the flip side, fatalities have spiked with a total of 81 deaths reported in the last 48 hours, all of which occurred last week.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 18,561 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, down from 30,585 on Tuesday January 25 and significantly lower than the 57,607 infections reported over the weekend. This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,042,143.
By province: 1,604 have been recorded in Castellón (129,632 in total), 5,478 in Alicante (369,980), 11,478 in Valencia (542,528). There are now three unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 208,036 active cases, which represent 19.75% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,860 people admitted to hospital with Covid (one less than on Tuesday), 199 of them in ICU (no change): 259 in the province of Castellón, 25 in ICU; 612 in the province of Alicante, 68 of them in ICU; and 989 in the province of Valencia, 106 in ICU.
21,818 people have overcome the virus since the last update, meaning meaning there have been 3,257 more recoveries than infections. The total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 837,068.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows: 98,582 in Castellón, 299,547 in Alicante and 438,882 in Valencia. There are 57 unassigned cases.
Fatalities
39 Covid-related deaths have been reported since Tuesday's update (three less), which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,480: 967 in the province of Castellón, 3,254 in Alicante and 4,259 in Valencia.
The deceased, who died within the last seven days, are 20 men, aged between 53 and 95, and 19 women between 56 and 101-years-old.
Vaccination data
Once again, there has been no update on vaccinations. As of Friday January 14, 4,265,413 people had been double-jabbed, and a total of 10,042,110 doses of vaccine had been administered since the beginning of the pandemic.
