ARCHIVED - Intensive police patrols this weekend to try and stop further contagions in Murcia region
The Mayoress of Cartagena has called on residents to denounce illegal gatherings to the police and report those who are breaking the rules
2,000 Guardia Civil and Policía Nacional will be on duty over the next three days and during the remains of the Fiestas de Primavera in Murcia to try and prevent movement, ensure restrictions are being enforced and try to limit the further spread of the virus.
Although it’s known that most of the contagions currently allowing covid to maintain what feels like a permanent presence in our lives, occur within family or social groups as a result of contact with those outside of the domestic bubble, major attempts are being made over the main Easter holiday weekend to limit the possibilities for contacts with three different police forces increasing their presence on the streets.
The Guardia Civíl has 400 controls planned for the perimeter borders, to reduce the amount of movement between the Murcia region and neighbouring provinces, the Policía Nacional has patrols in bus and train stations to check the validity of any journeys being made, as well as carrying out vigilance in areas of major public movement and Policia Local are carrying out a wide range of actions in their own local municipalities (Policia Local are run by each municipal council).
Yesterday the regional health authorities stated that there has been a 90 per cent increase in the number of new cases relating to the age group of those aged 20-29 during the last week and a 30 per cent increase in the 30-39 year-old group, both of these age groups being the most likely to spread the virus, but suffer the least serious cases of covid.
Cartagena Mayoress urges residents to report those breaking the rules to local police:The mayoress of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, called for residents to "call the Local Police to report the behavior of those who disobey the rules" and has authorised additional police cover for within her municipality to carry out vigilance within the city and on beaches.
