Irish tourist arrested in Mallorca for abandoning her 5-year-old daughter to get drunk
The child was fed and cared for by strangers at the hotel they were staying at while her mother was passed out drunk
Spanish police have arrested a 45-year-old Irish woman who was on holiday in Mallorca for allegedly abandoning her young daughter, aged just 5 years old, in the hotel while she went out and got drunk every day.The mother and daughter were staying at a hotel in the town of Manacor, and according to an official police press release, on the very first day of their holiday the mother left her daughter alone in the hotel to go out and drink alcohol in large quantities.

Sources claim the woman was drinking beer from the moment she got up in the morning until she went to bed, while her daughter was looked after by other holidaymakers and strangers she met at the hotel, including a family with a daughter of a similar age who felt sorry for the little girl.
That family had no choice but to feed the young girl, make sure she had sunscreen on, wash her, dress her and ensure she was playing safely in the pool while her mother was either asleep on a sunbed or drinking at the bar.
Hotel staff eventually refused to serve the woman any more alcohol, at which point she popped to a supermarket just opposite the hotel and bought some more of her own.
It was at this point that the family looking after the young girl reported the situation to hotel staff, who brought the police in. After the woman was arrested on suspicion of the crime of child abandonment, the girl’s father got on a flight from Ireland the very next day to come and take care of her.
