Irish tourist caught flashing children on Spanish street avoids jail
The 28-year-old was visiting the Mallorca resort of Santa Ponsa when he exposed himself to three teenagers
A Palma Criminal Court this week sentenced a young Irish tourist to six months behind bars for indecently exposing himself to three teenagers while he was holidaying in the Mallorca resort of Santa Ponsa.
The 28-year-old attended his trial via videoconference and pleaded guilty to three counts of exhibitionism. At the request of his lawyer Gloria Olmos, the judge agreed to suspend the six-month sentence provided the young man stays out of trouble for the next two years.
He has also been ordered to pay 1,500 euros in compensation to each of his victims.
The court heard that the Irish tourist was holidaying in Spain last year when the incident occurred. On September 9, the defendant was inebriated when he came across three girls, two 15 year olds and one 13 year old, between calles Ramón de Montcada and Riu Sil.
When he approached them, he showed the children his genitals and began touching himself in a sexual manner, saying “Do you want to see my penis?”
Minutes later a Calvià Local Police patrol arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect.
The judged order compensation be paid for the emotional trauma he inflicted on the young girls and the enduring psychological impact this impact has had on them.
Meanwhile, in the Costa Blanca resort of Benidorm, a 27-year-old British expat has been sentenced to 20 year behind bars for taking indecent photos and videos of 13 children and distributing them on the dark web.
He was originally handed down a sentence totalling 133 years behind bars. However, Spanish law dictates that in reality, a maximum prison sentence can’t exceed three times the punishment for the most serious crime, so the Briton will only end up serving 20 years.
