King Charles III coronation events: What is happening in my area of Spain and how can I celebrate?
These are the top events in Spain to celebrate the coronation of King Charles II on May 6, 2023
The coronation of King Charles III is taking place on Saturday May 6, 2023, and there are many charities, organisations, associations, businesses and bars that are marking the momentous occasion with street parties and other events.
Ex-pats, part-timers and holidaymakers alike will be watching the Coronation on television on the day, and having picnics and parties on the Sunday and other days too.
Here is a list of some of the main events and activities taking place around Spain to celebrate the coronation of the new King:
Murcia
- The Ladies’ Association of Hacienda del Álamo is celebrating on Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort with an “International Street Party” on Saturday May 6 from 2pm-6pm. Advance booking required; tickets cost 20 euros per adult.
- Age Concern is hosting a “Best of British Garden Party” on Sunday May 7 on Camposol C Sector. Tickets cost 10 euros.
- Also on the Camposol urbanisation, there is a joint Coronation celebration at the bars in the B Sector Commercial Centre – Trevi Bar, Shenanigans and New Bar Salud – on Saturday May 6, with live music from 4.30pm onwards.
- Club MMGR on the Mar Menor Golf Resort is having a Coronation party on Saturday May 6, with an all-day Street Party from 11am to 8pm, with live music from a DJ. Dress code is Red, White and Blue. FREE entrance for members; non-members 5 euros.
- Bar Bokao on Condado de Alhama urbanisation has a special Coronation Menu on Saturday May 6 of slow-roast pork baps for just 6.50 euros.
- La Quinta Club, on La Manga Club resort, has its own Coronation Street Party on Sunday May 7 at its onsite La Solana restaurant from 1pm onwards. Tickets cost 25 euros per person.
Alicante
- Big FM is holding a Live Outside Broadcast At Tommy’s in Rojales all day with street party and entertainment on Saturday May 6.
- The Royal British Legion - Javea Branch are celebrating with drinks, a 3-course meal and live music on Sunday May 7.
- The Church of England Chaplaincy of Ss Peter and Paul, Torrevieja are holding a Mass in English at La Siesta Church on Calle Granados on Friday May 5 at 11.30am to pray for Their Majesties in preparation for the Coronation. Then, on Sunday May 7 at 11.30am, there will be a second Mass to give thanks for the Coronation. Finally, on Monday May 8 at 4pm there is a Coronation Celebration outside the church with a big shared Afternoon Tea, a Best Crown competition, a Best Victoria Sandwich competition for the men, a Coronation competition and a toast to Their Majesties. Andalucia
- Mijas hotel restaurant is hosting a Coronation dinner on Saturday May 6.
- La Cala Lions are having a Party in the Park on Sunday May 7 at Butibamba Park in La Cala de Mijas from 12pm-8pm.
- The Royal British Legion - Altiplano Branch is having a Coronation Picnic in the field behind the campsite in Freila, Granada on Sunday May 7 from 2.30pm onwards, with everyone asked to bring their own tables, chairs picnic baskets and drinks. There will also be a raffle and a Numbers Board to raise money for the RBL.
Balearic Islands
- The English-Speaking Church on Ibiza & Formentera has teamed up with CeboIbiza to run a quiz night on Tuesday May 2 at 8pm; a live screening of the coronation on the big screens in Cebo on Saturday May 6; and a Big Coronation Lunch on Sunday May 7 at 1.30pm. They are also joining in the national week of prayer from April 29 to May 6.
Catalonia
- The British Benevolent Association (BBA) in Girona province are having a Coronation Garden Party and Afternoon Tea on May 20 from 4pm-7pm in the Can Carbonell gardens, with Special Guest Lloyd Millen from the British Consulate in Barcelona. FREE for members, guests pay 10 euros.
Madrid
- The Royal British Legion Madrid are having an (indoor) Street Party on Sunday May 7 from 11am-6pm at The Secret Kingdoms, 7 Calle de Moratín, 28014, Madrid. It will include a quiz, raffle, tombola, entertainment, refreshments and more to raise funds for the RBL Madrid Branch.
